A lehenga is not a difficult purchase. It is a purchase with four decisions inside it — silhouette, size, timing and returnability — and most of the disappointment comes from making the last three by accident.
This guide covers what a Canadian buyer specifically needs to know: how the sizing differs from what you wear day to day, how much time to leave for alterations, what delivery actually costs and takes inside Canada, and which pieces cannot be sent back once they arrive. Decide the occasion before the budget
A lehenga bought for one wedding and a lehenga bought to wear for the next five years are different purchases, and the second one is not simply the more expensive version of the first.
- Guest at one wedding. Weight and comfort matter more than density of work. You will be in it for six hours, some of that seated on a floor.
- Bride, or immediate family. Structure and photography matter most. This is where a corset or a boned blouse earns its cost, because it holds its own shape through an entire day rather than relying on yours. The corsets collection sits alongside the Bride Tribe range for this reason.
- Repeat festive wear. Buy the piece whose skirt can take a different blouse and dupatta next year. A neutral panelled skirt in ivory, champagne or mocha does that; a single-look statement piece does not.
Sizing: where Canadian buyers lose the most money
Indian occasion wear is cut closer than Canadian ready-to-wear, particularly through the bust and the upper arm, and the numbering does not convert cleanly. A size you wear comfortably at a mall will often be tight at the armhole in a lehenga blouse.
Four measurements decide the outcome, and only two of them appear on a normal size chart:
- Bust, taken over the bra you will actually wear on the day.
- Natural waist, which for a lehenga waistband is higher than where jeans sit.
- Armhole, the one that ruins otherwise correct orders.
- Waist to floor, measured in the shoes you intend to wear. Two inches of heel changes the hem by two inches, and a lehenga hem should clear the floor by about half an inch.

One rule covers most cases: order to your largest measurement and have the rest taken in. A skirt waist can be reduced in an afternoon. A blouse cannot be made bigger than the fabric it was cut from.
The timing, counted backwards
The mistake is counting forwards from today. Count backwards from the date.

The components: one to two business days of order processing, four to six business days of standard delivery or three to five express, then the tailor. GTA tailors book out through wedding season, which in Ontario runs from November into February, so the tailoring block is the one that expands without warning.
Occasion wear is also not restocked the way everyday clothing is. Most sizes here exist in quantities of a few. If you have found the piece and it is in your size, that is the moment.
What cannot be returned
Read this before ordering rather than after, because it changes the sensible way to buy.
Bridal wear is not eligible for return. Neither are pre-draped sarees, sarees with stitched blouses, customised or personalised pieces, or anything bought under a Buy 1 Get 1 promotion.
For everything else, returns must be initiated within seven days of delivery and shipped back within fourteen, and refunds are issued as store credit rather than to the original payment method. Alteration, petticoat, fall and pico, and pre-draping charges are not refundable. The full terms are in the return policy.
The practical consequence: for a bridal lehenga, the fitting belongs before the order. If you are in the Greater Toronto Area, that is an afternoon at the Brampton store rather than a gamble by courier.
Delivery and the duty question
Prices are in Canadian dollars. Standard shipping within Canada is CAD $25 and free above CAD $125; express is a flat CAD $29.99. Orders ship duty-free, and in the rare case a duty or tax is charged anyway, it is reimbursed in full once the official receipt is shared. The shipping policy sets out the detail.
This is the line item people forget when comparing a Canadian price against an overseas one. The listed price is not the landed cost: shipping, duty, courier brokerage, currency conversion and the cost of a cross-border return all sit on top, and a return that has to leave the country is rarely worth making.
Buying for a winter wedding
Ontario's wedding season and Ontario's winter are the same months, which changes a few things that no lehenga guide written for a warmer climate will mention.
- Set the hem for boots-to-shoes. You will arrive in boots and change inside. Measure the hem for the shoes you will wear at the venue, not the ones you travel in.
- A heavy skirt is an advantage in January. The weight that makes a velvet or dense-zari lehenga punishing at a summer sangeet is comfortable in a hall in winter. Season should influence the weight you choose.
- Dry indoor heat makes light linings cling. Forced-air heating drops indoor humidity sharply and static builds on georgette and net linings. A cotton slip under the skirt handles it.
- Road salt sets on pale hems. Cream, ivory and champagne hems mark in a parking lot within seconds, and the mark does not brush out. Lift the skirt to the car and lower it inside.
- Do not hang a heavily worked lehenga long term. The weight of the embroidery distorts the waistband and the shoulder line of the blouse over months. Fold it flat with tissue.

It depends almost entirely on the density of handwork rather than on the silhouette. A guest lehenga and a bridal one can share a shape and differ several times over in price because of what is on the surface.
