Indian Outfits for a Destination Wedding: Pack It or Ship It

Printed kaftan co-ord set in light fabric, the kind of piece that recovers from a suitcase

MishUUU |

Every guide to destination wedding outfits is about fabric weight and humidity. Useful, and not what actually goes wrong, which is logistics: the parcel arrives the week you fly, or reaches a resort before you do, or arrives and does not fit — and by the time you are home, every window for doing something about it has closed.

This page is about that half of the problem. The outfit advice is at the end, and it is shorter than you might expect, because the decisions that matter are made before anything reaches a suitcase.

Pack it or ship it, priced

Both are available. The figures below come from the shipping policy rather than from a product page.

  • Buy in Canada and carry it. Standard domestic shipping is CAD $25 and free above CAD $125, so for most of the catalogue the parcel reaches you at no charge. Processing is one to two business days and standard delivery four to six, with express at CAD $29.99 flat and three to five.
  • Ship it to the destination. Standard international is CAD $28.99 and free above CAD $131, express CAD $29.99 flat. To the United States it is USD $20.00, free above USD $95.

Two details inside that second line are worth more than the rates themselves.

The first is a carve-out almost nobody will ever encounter and which matters enormously if you do. Three destinations sit in a separate tier — Guyana, Türkiye and Lebanon — at CAD $28.99 flat with no free-shipping threshold at all. A wedding in Jamaica or Trinidad crosses CAD $131 and ships free. A wedding in Guyana pays the postage no matter how large the order. For a Toronto family with relatives in Georgetown that is a real line in the budget, and it appears nowhere except the policy page.

The second is who carries the risk. Every order is insured in transit, and if a parcel is lost before it reaches the address the loss sits with us. But once the courier marks it Delivered, responsibility transfers to you — and a signature is not required unless you nominate an alternate recipient. Shipping to a hotel you have not checked into yet means a box sitting behind a front desk with nobody's name against it.

One practical move follows: nominating an alternate recipient makes their signature proof of delivery, so naming the venue's events coordinator rather than yourself converts an unsigned drop into a signed handover. It costs nothing, and it is the thing most worth doing if you ship ahead.

And one way to lose three-quarters of the money

Refusing a delivery without telling us first incurs a 75% restocking fee, deducted from the refund. That clause reads as though it targets buyer's remorse. In practice the people who trigger it are travelling: a resort declines a parcel for a guest who has not arrived, or a relative turns the courier away because nothing was expected. Neither knows what it costs. On a CAD $200 outfit, a refused delivery returns about fifty dollars. If you ship ahead, tell the venue a parcel is coming and tell us where it is going — that is the whole mitigation.

Four clocks that start when the box lands, not when you get home

This is the part that catches people out, and the reason a destination wedding needs a different ordering calendar from a wedding in Brampton. Every window in the return policy is measured from delivery, not from when you open the box.

  • 24 hours to report an item missing from the shipment.
  • 48 hours to report a fault, with photographs — and 48 hours for a customisation that does not match your specification, with photographs taken alongside a measuring tape.
  • 7 days from delivery to initiate a return.
  • 7 days from approval to post the item back.

Order ten days before you fly, take delivery while you are already at the airport, and come home a fortnight later: all four have expired, unopened. None of that is unreasonable alone; together, and from the wrong side of a holiday, they are absolute.

So the rule is narrower than the usual advice: have it delivered early enough to open, try on and act within a week — then pack it. Three days before the flight is a gamble you cannot unwind from a beach.

Two more clauses belong in the same calculation: there are no direct exchanges, so a swap is a return, an inspection, store credit and a fresh order, and refunds are issued as store credit rather than to the card. The guide to buying Indian clothes online in Canada works through the ordinary version.

What survives a suitcase

Now the clothes. The test is not formality, it is recovery: what falls back into shape after a few hours on a hanger, and what arrives with a crease it will keep until a dry cleaner sees it.

What to leave at home

Velvet, and anything carrying dense surface work on a light ground. The Crimson Red Embroidered Velvet 3-Piece Festive Ensemble at CAD $120 is a genuinely good winter piece and the wrong answer for a flight and a humid week: velvet holds a fold, and pressure marks on pile do not hang out.

Also leave behind anything you would mind losing. Everything here is dry clean only, which at home is an errand and abroad is nothing at all — a stain on day two stays until you are home.

Why a pre-draped saree is the right travel garment, and the one catch

A conventional saree needs a petticoat, a fall and pico finish and twenty minutes of pinning at a mirror — see saree finishing — and none of that is available at a resort. A pre-draped saree needs none of it: the Black Pre-Draped Saree Set at CAD $120, the Midnight Teal Hand-Crafted Draped Saree Set at CAD $155 and the Ivory Modern Drape Saree at CAD $135 go on in a hotel room in minutes.

The catch is that pre-draped sarees are not returnable, and neither are sarees with stitched blouses, customised pieces, bridal wear or Buy 1 Get 1 items. So the garment easiest to wear abroad is the one you must be certain of before it ships, which puts the whole weight on the measurement. Read the size chart and our measuring guide first; custom sizing removes the return entirely, so it is for a body a chart does not fit rather than for uncertainty.

Working backwards from the flight

Orders ship within one to two business days and always within fourteen days of confirmation, with standard delivery at four to six business days. A cancellation must be requested within 24 hours of ordering, and on a Ready-to-Ship order only before a tracking number is assigned.

Put together: six weeks before the flight is comfortable, four weeks works, two weeks is the floor — enough to receive it, try it on and still be inside the seven-day window while standing in your own hallway. Inside ten days you are ordering something you have decided to keep whatever happens. If you are in the Greater Toronto Area, buying in person at the Brampton store removes every clock in this article at once.

Frequently asked questions

Can you ship an Indian outfit to a destination wedding abroad?

Yes. Standard international shipping is CAD $28.99 and free above CAD $131, express CAD $29.99 flat, carried by DHL, FedEx or UPS on a duty-free basis. Guyana, Türkiye and Lebanon sit in a separate tier at CAD $28.99 flat with no free-shipping threshold.

Is it better to pack it or ship it?

Pack it, in almost every case. Domestic delivery is free above CAD $125, and you get to try the outfit on while you can still return it. Ship ahead only when the luggage will not take it, and then nominate someone at the venue as recipient.

What happens if the parcel is refused at the hotel?

A delivery refused without prior notice carries a 75% restocking fee deducted from the refund. Tell the venue a parcel is coming, and nominate an alternate recipient so their signature stands as proof of delivery.

What is the best fabric for a destination wedding outfit?

Georgette, and printed rather than heavily embellished pieces, because georgette recovers from a suitcase almost creaseless. Avoid velvet and dense surface work on a light ground: both hold creases and pressure marks that will not hang out.

Can I return something after the trip?

Only if you are still inside the window, and the window runs from delivery rather than from your return: seven days to initiate, seven more to post it back after approval, refunded as store credit. Pre-draped sarees, sarees with stitched blouses, bridal wear, customised pieces and Buy 1 Get 1 items are not returnable at all.

Will I pay customs duties?

In most destinations, no — orders ship duty-free with DHL, FedEx or UPS. If duties are charged anyway, the full amount is reimbursed once you send the official paid receipt, so keep the courier paperwork.

Where to look next

For the garments, the Drapes & Saree, Co-ord Sets and Indo-Western edits hold most of what travels well, with the broader rail in Suit Sets and the lighter end in Under $195. For the money, what an Indian outfit actually costs in Canada sets out the bands, and buying a pre-draped saree in Canada covers the garment in detail. Orders can be followed at track your order. Sizes run 3XS to XL depending on the piece, with custom sizing available on request.
