What there is a shortage of is straight information about sizing, alteration time, and what happens if the piece does not fit when it arrives.
This is a practical guide rather than a directory. It covers when it is worth shopping in person, what to check before you pay, how delivery works across Ontario and the rest of Canada, and the specific things a Canadian winter does to an outfit that no guide written in Delhi will mention.
In person or online: the honest answer
Both work, for different purchases.
Buy online when you know your measurements, the piece is a standard cut, and you have four weeks or more before the event. Delivery inside Canada is quick, the whole catalogue is visible at once, and you are not limited to what one shop floor happens to be holding this week.
Come in person when the occasion is significant, when you are between sizes, when you have never worn the garment type before, or when the date is close. A blouse that measures correctly on paper can still bind at the armhole. A lehenga hem that is right for flats is two inches wrong for the heels you actually intend to wear. Those are five-minute problems in a fitting room and two-week problems by courier.
The rule that saves the most trouble: if the outfit needs to fit closely, and the date is inside a month, go and try it on.

What a visit is actually for
- Being measured properly. Ten minutes with a tape resolves the armhole, blouse length and waist-to-floor questions that a size chart cannot.
- Seeing colour under real light. Champagne, mocha, sage and taupe photograph differently from how they read in a room. So do gold and copper thread, which look flat on a screen and lift under warm light.
- Handling weight. The difference between a lehenga you can wear for six hours and one you cannot is not visible in a photograph. Lift the skirt.
- Talking through alterations before you commit, rather than discovering afterwards that the change you want is not possible on that hem.
One thing worth knowing before you travel: refunds are not processed at the store location. Returns run through the online process described in the return policy, and they are issued as store credit rather than to the original payment method.
What to check before you buy anything
Sizing, which is where most money is lost
Indian occasion wear is cut closer than most Canadian clothing, particularly through the bust and upper arm, and the numbering does not map cleanly onto what you wear day to day. Ordering your usual size is the single most common reason a first outfit does not fit.

The return rules people read too late
This is the part most shopping guides skip, and it changes how you should buy. Several categories are not eligible for return at all:
- Bridal wear
- Pre-draped sarees
- Sarees with stitched blouses
- Customised and personalised pieces
- Anything bought under a Buy 1 Get 1 promotion
Eligible returns must be initiated within seven days of delivery and shipped back within fourteen, and refunds are issued as store credit. Alteration, petticoat, fall and pico, and pre-draping charges are not refundable.
None of that is unusual for occasion wear, but it has a practical consequence: for a bridal piece, a pre-draped saree or anything customised, the fitting has to happen before the order, not after delivery. That is the strongest argument for a shop floor there is.
Alterations, counted backwards
Work backwards from the date, not forwards from today. A realistic timeline for a piece that needs adjusting is one to two business days of order processing, four to six business days of standard delivery, then a week or more for a tailor — and GTA tailors book out during wedding season. Eight weeks before the event is comfortable. Two weeks is ready-to-wear only.
Shopping for a Canadian winter wedding
Most Indian wedding-wear advice is written for a climate that does not have February in it. Ontario's wedding season runs straight through the coldest months, and a few things follow from that.
- The coat problem is real. A structured cape or a heavily worked dupatta will crush under a winter coat and will not recover in the twenty minutes between the car and the ceremony. Carry the outer layer separately and put it on at the venue, or choose a piece whose shape does not depend on a crisp drape.
- Dry indoor heating makes georgette cling. Forced-air heat drops indoor humidity sharply, and light synthetics and their linings generate static in a way they never do in humid weather. An anti-static spray on the lining, or a cotton slip, solves it. Discovering it at the venue does not.
- Road salt destroys pale hems and juttis. A cream lehenga hem and an ivory jutti will both take salt marks from a parking lot in seconds, and salt sets. Wear boots, carry the shoes, change inside.
- Allow for a longer indoor evening. Winter functions run indoors and warm. Weight that felt fine in a fitting room in November will feel heavier in a full hall in January.

Orders are processed within one to two business days. Standard delivery is four to six business days and express is three to five. On customs: orders ship duty-free, and in the rare case duties or taxes are charged anyway, they are reimbursed in full on presentation of the official receipt.
